William J. David, Ph.D

The author was born in Battle Creek, Michigan. At age seven, insulin-dependent diabetes savagely struck and compromised his life. In the 1930s, medical treatment of diabetes was crude. David and his family desperately fought the challenging barriers to normality until rescued by an understanding teacher and pediatrician. His diabetic battles again intensified after his parents divorced when he approached adolescence. Regardless of the intense difficulty of controlling diabetes in the 1940s, David managed part-time employment while attending countless schools before graduating high school.

Longevity with diabetes generated his deep understanding of diabetic issues as well as sensitivity to the needs of others. The author became self-supporting after high school graduation. He consequently financed his baccalaureate at Western Michigan University and masters’ degree from the University of Michigan. He taught emotionally disturbed students before earning his doctorate from the University of Wisconsin. Subsequently, he pursued a higher education career earning numerous awards and honors. Many research articles are to his credit. The seventy-six-year-old professor is also a cancer survivor. His hobbies include travel, fishing, gardening, and university consulting. David and wife presently reside in North Texas. They enjoy four children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
